The public has spoken and Boris Johnson has been elected as Prime Minister. Even though the Conservative Party said they would review the IR35 reforms in the private sector, given they were the architects of the legislation we strongly believe that these changes will go ahead as planned however watch this space for further announcements.

2019 has been a busy year at PayStream. We’ve had some amazing successes starting with winning best contractor accountant in both the Talint International supplier awards in June and the Contracting Awards which were held in November.  We’ve also exceeded expectations by further enhancing our Customer Service Excellence accreditation with 19 compliance plus awards.

In preparation for April 2020 we’ve been providing help and advice regarding the upcoming changes to our limited company contractors, advising them what’s happening, how these changes will affect them and what their options are moving forwards. If you missed our recent webinar then you can watch again here. Or if you think that working through an umbrella company will be your best option moving forwards then we help to explain the differences between the two services in our easy to follow infographic.

Our online IR35 review portal, IR35 Comply, which is free for all our existing contractors, has also been really well received by the market. It not only provides an easy to use, accessible way to carry out an IR35 review, but unlike the CEST tool, it also has a team of IR35 experts evaluating all of the information provided by the contractor, agency or hirer. This allows us to paint a picture of the overall working circumstances of the role before determining an IR35 status.

Amidst all of the election chaos we have missed out on an Autumn Budget however one thing you can be sure of is that taxes will continue to be collected and legislation will continue to be passed. We take a look at some of the consequences of recent political events and how they could impact on the contracting industry.

All that’s left for me to do, is wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy new year and to wish us all luck as to what 2020 will bring, but whatever it is, you can be sure that PayStream will be ready to tackle it head on, with minimal disruption to those using our services

Last month we reviewed HMRC’s Check of Employment Status for Tax tool after HMRC refused to accept NHS Digitals status determination outcomes that had been generated by their very own tool. Now with less than 20 weeks to go before the new off-payroll working in the private sector rules are due to come into effect in April 2020, HMRC have finally launched an updated CEST.
