Craig originally joined PayStream as an Accounts Assistant back in 2015. Since then, he’s worked his way up through the ranks and now is as a Lead Accountant. We wanted to find out a little more about Craig and his PayStream journey.

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself and what brought you to PayStream?

I joined PayStream after completing my accountancy and finance degree at Chester University. I wanted to get into accountancy as soon as possible and someone I knew was working as a recruiter. He mentioned that there was a vacancy in the Customer Care department at PayStream, so I decided to go along for an interview. Conveniently, after my interviews, a role became available within the accounts team. I took the opportunity and started my PayStream journey in August 2015.

2. What is a typical day at PayStream like?

I wouldn’t say that there is such a thing as a typical day at PayStream, you never know the type of email query or call that you are going to get. This can sometimes completely change any plan you had for the day!

Generally speaking though, my role involves looking after an accounts team where I manage a portfolio of clients in a number of industries, supporting them with company admin, accounting and tax support as required.

3. How does PayStream compare to your previous workplaces?

My role at PayStream, whilst not a face-to-face customer service role, is similar in some respects to my previous job working as a bartender. That role taught me the importance of building a good rapport with customers and helped me understand how to speak with people from all different walks of life. I found that this helps with the rapport building I now do at PayStream.

4. What three words would you use to describe PayStream?

Supportive – with the training support that PayStream provide when working towards professional qualifications. It’s also flexible in day-to-day life around working arrangements. The second word I would use is “motivating”, with all of the social events outside of work and random treats throughout the year, it’s a great place to work and this can be seen throughout the company. The final word I would use is “challenging”, but in a good way as it means that the days are never boring, you are always learning and progressing in your career.

5. What do you enjoy most about working at PayStream?

I really enjoy the opportunity to develop as an accountant within PayStream with a work/life balance that allows me to learn on the job and work towards a professional qualification. Away from the professional side of things, I enjoy the social events that PayStream host for staff like the Christmas party or quiz nights.

6. What would people be surprised to learn about you?

My personal record for the Pizza Hut buffet is 23 slices in one sitting… (a fine attempt if I say so myself).

7. What are your favourite things to do outside of work?

Keeping active is a big part of my life outside of work. Whether it be going to the gym or taking my staffy-cross rescue for walks across Cheshire and beyond.
