Jack originally joined our umbrella Customer Care team as a contractor, before making the switch to becoming a permanent employee after deciding that PayStream was the place for him. He’s since worked his way up from being a Customer Care Advisor to become a Team Lead within the department and even won our Employee of the Year award in 2022. We wanted to find out a little bit more about both Jack and his rise through the team.

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself and what brought you to PayStream?

I was a little unsure on what I wanted to do as a career, and I was given the opportunity by Venn Group to work at PayStream. Initially, this was as a contractor but with the aim to become a permanent member of the team. I became permanent in January 2021 and have since risen through the ranks and recently I was promoted to a Team Lead!

2. What is a typical day at PayStream like?

A typical day at PayStream is pretty fast paced, especially in the Customer Care department as we receive a large range of queries, it helps keep you on your toes. My role includes supporting the team on the phone and helping resolve any escalations that may arise. I know it’s very cliché, but every day is certainly different and this leads to the excitement and variation that helps me enjoy my job as much as I do.

3. How does PayStream compare to your previous workplaces?

I’d never really worked in an office before, after graduating with a degree in education studies and sport from Manchester Metropolitan University, I actually worked in a nursery with children aged between 6 months and 4 years. It’s safe to say that was pretty different to what I do now!

4. What three words would you use to describe PayStream?

Exciting, challenging and rewarding.

5. What do you enjoy most about working at PayStream?

I really enjoy the ethos we have in Customer Care, there’s definitely a togetherness in terms of the collective aim that we have (to live up to the award winning service that we provide)! The internal progression at PayStream is amazing, the management team really help to grow and nurture your career which allows you to thrive. This fosters an environment that you want to buy into and help PayStream achieve its goals.

6. What would people be surprised to learn about you?

During lockdown I took the opportunity to grow a mullet, and it was honestly one of the best decisions I made. My confidence was off the charts! I can confirm that it will be making a re-appearance again in the not-so-distant future.

7. What are your favourite things to do outside of work?

Most of my time outside of work is taken up with rugby, I play for the 1st team at Altrincham Kersal RUFC where we’re currently sitting nicely in mid-table despite a rocky start to the season! Other than this I’m a keen cook, I love learning to make a wide range of cuisines as they each one has their own methods.
