Harrison Hamilton joined PayStream back in January 2014 as a Closing Accountant. He’s since worked his way up the ranks and is now a PSC Project Lead. Given his success at PayStream, we wanted to find out a little more about Harrison and his PayStream journey.

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself and what brought you to PayStream?

I graduated from University in 2012 with a BSc (Hons) First in Accounting and Finance, previously having studied for a Diploma in Finance and Accounting, so my eggs were definitely all in one basket! I was told about a job at PayStream by a friend and after all the positive things he had to say about the company, it was a no-brainer! I joined as a Closing Accountant before becoming an Accounts Senior, then worked my way up to a Lead Accountant before starting my current role as the PSC Project Lead about 16 months ago.

2. What's a typical day like at PayStream working as a PSC Project Lead?

My days usually comprises of managing the teams I look after which consists of the team who helps people close their limited companies, the team that helps companies transfer to PayStream from another accountant, and the team that takes on project work for the accounts department. I also provide trouble-shooting support to the accounts teams, dealing with systems and technical support and providing a second opinion on accounting treatments. Finally, I take the problems that the accounts team are having and find a better solution to the problem – this may be an IT fix (in which case, I will write a specification for the changes and liaise with our IT developers), or it may be a change in process which I would define and document.

3. How does PayStream compare to your previous workplaces?

PayStream is number 1 on the list of workplaces I have worked in! I find the working environment is perfectly suited to me as it has given me the opportunity to grow both professionally and academically.  PayStream offers a great range of benefits that I have never had in any of my previous workplaces, which make me feel like a valued member of the team.

4. What do you enjoy most about working at PayStream?

The people! Without all the hard-working, positive and friendly people at PayStream, it would be a completely different place.

5. What would people be surprised to learn about you?

You may be surprised to know that I am a little bit of a hoarder. As well as being a Numismatist (I have around 1,000 different coins), I have over 500 Lego Minifigures, 150 Monopoly Boards and countless other collections of junk. Dusting is a big chore!

6. What are your favourite things to do outside of work?

I enjoy quite a varied mix of things - DIY, playing Xbox, watching boxsets and going to the cinema. Travelling is something I love doing too, I am going to New York soon and that will mark my 5th Continent visited this year. By far though most of my time outside of work is taken up playing Pokémon GO, which I am obsessed with at the moment.
