As with every New Year, there will always be a surplus of individuals looking to expand their career horizons however, 2014 has seen a sharp rise in job application figures. The gradual recovery of the UK economy, without a doubt, is one of the key drivers in this rise, with most economists predicting GDP to be well above 2%.
The Recruitment and Employment Federation, REC, have forecasted as much as 7% growth in the first quarter of the UK recruitment market, with predictions of it picking up to as much as 8% in the latter part of the year.The main challenge for recruiters will be the ever increasing gap of skilled labour as industries expand and innovate. No stranger to this is the shale gas market as recent tax breaks has seen a sudden growth in this industry. However, in terms of temporary labour, the lack of a skilled permanent workforce can open up a lot of opportunity for highly skilled contractors.
