A new report from oilandgaspeople.com highlighted that a whopping 63% of employers perceive social media to be a most effective channel when sourcing potential contractors.
The wide variety of social profiles gives employers the ability to sift through any array of candidates qualities;
- 88% of recruiters used LinkedIn.
- 25% of recruiters used Facebook.
- 8% of recruiters used Twitter.
- 33% of recruiters used industry relevant online job boards.
The survey highlighted that 77% of recruiters indicated that social media gives a deeper insight into potential umbrella and limited company contractors, while one third said it is the most cost-effective solution.
So, how detrimental can a sub-par social media profile truly be to a prospective candidate?
The recently released oilandgaspeople.com report highlighted that almost two-thirds of recruiters in the UK have rejected potential job applications, solely based on a candidates social media profile. The survey, for which more than 7,000 HR managers, recruiters and recruitment companies took part in, demonstrated that more than 82% of employers have researched a prospective candidate, with an enormous 64% rejection rate based on their social profile.
So what is it about a candidate's social profile that is scaring off potential employers?
The two main issues that are getting negative attention from employers are candidate's inability to highlight their skills and attributes effectively or contractors that have posted extreme, outlandish and offensive pictures or messages via their social media channels.
With social media becoming the go-to form for low cost advertising it is key that candidates carefully monitor their profiles, using resources such as skills endorsements via LinkedIn, to their advantage.
