National Minimum Wage is the minimum hourly rate of pay all workers aged 24 and under are entitled to by law. The hourly rate will depend on the age of the worker and whether they are an apprentice. Thereafter, workers aged 25+ are entitled to National Living Wage (NLW).
Any changes to the National Minimum Wage are usually introduced in October and so it has been confirmed to increase again on the 1st October 2016.
*If an apprentice is 19+ and has completed their first year of their apprenticeship, this would entitle them to the NMW based on their age (as above)
National Living Wage (NLW)
From the 1st April 2016, the National Living Wage was introduced entitling all workers aged 25+ to be paid at a rate of £7.20 per hour. By 2020, the National Living Wage is expected to rise to £9.00 per hour.
