Liverpool may be one of the best places for limited company contractors in the UK to find work during 2017, according to new jobs market analysis.

Research carried out by CV-Library shows that the number of jobs advertised in Liverpool rose by almost one-quarter (23 per cent) over the past 12 months, indicating that there are plenty of opportunities available for contractors as 2017 gets underway.

Edinburgh was named the second best place to find work this year, with vacancies up by one-fifth year-on-year. London came in third place with an annual increase of 19 per cent, while Southampton and Portsmouth completed the top five, with both experiencing rises of 18 per cent.

Meanwhile, the number of contracts on offer in Manchester rose by 17 per cent over the course of the last year, suggesting a similar increase could occur throughout 2017, while vacancies in Hull increased by 15 per cent. Completing the top ten most likely locations to find a job this year are Cardiff, where job opportunities were up by 14 per cent in 2016, Glasgow (13 per cent) and Bristol, which also experienced a 13 per cent increase.

Founder and managing director of CV-Library Lee Biggins commented: "Liverpool, London and Edinburgh are some of the UK's largest cities, so it's fantastic that there are some great job opportunities for candidates this New Year.

"Furthermore, it's clear that job growth was witnessed across the south, north and Wales, which is a positive indication that business confidence is strong across the nation."

However, the analysis also led to the discovery that the number of workers applying for each advertised role is on the up, with job applications rising by 24 per cent in Liverpool, ten per cent in Edinburgh and nine per cent in London over the past year.

This means that contractors need to make sure they are honing their skills and carrying out contracts as professionally as possible in order to ensure they stand out in this competitive market.
