Limited company contractors operating in a variety of sectors across the UK have been encouraged to use social media outlets to boost their job prospects.

Business and social media advisor Ivor Kellock has claimed that having a properly-created LinkedIN profile will see prospective employers naturally gravitate toward a candidate.

"There are more than 161 Million people on LinkedIN globally with more than ten million registered from the UK. Fifty-five per cent of LinkedIn revenue in Q1 2012 came from selling hiring solutions to large companies - having a great profile on there gets you noticed," he explained.

The expert issued a few tips to new LinkedIn users, saying a good quality profile picture is a must, while an attention-grabbing headline will get members noticed.

A positive impression will "do wonders" for the recruitment process, Mr Kellock explained, as a prospective employer will be keen to learn more about a candidate.

"If you have no profile or a poorly written one who is the employer likely to employ? You with nothing, or a competitor with a well written profile?" he added.
