Brighton is the UK city where opportunities for limited company contractors, freelancers and other job hunters have grown at the highest rate over the past year, new data reveals.

Online recruiter CV-Library has analysed how many jobs were on offer in cities throughout the country in the last 12 months, finding that the number of vacancies in Brighton increased by 19.9 per cent in 2017 compared to 2016.

Manchester was next on the list, with 15.3 per cent more opportunities for contractors and full-time workers last year, followed by Glasgow in third place, which recorded vacancy growth of 14.6 per cent over the course of the last year.

Portsmouth and Sheffield both saw job advertisements increase by 13.5 per cent between 2016 and 2017, while Birmingham was ranked as the sixth best city to find a job at present, following an 11.4 per cent rise in opportunities over the last 12 months.

Bristol came in seventh place, having seen vacancies increase by eight per cent, followed by Leeds (7.6 per cent) and Aberdeen (7.1 per cent), with Edinburgh coming in tenth place, after opportunities rose by 5.9 per cent from 2016 to 2017.

London didn't feature in the top ten and neither did Liverpool, despite these cities performing best the previous year.

However, the data from CV-Library should provide contractors and freelancers with an idea of where their skills are most likely to be in demand over the next year, and which areas they should think about approaching clients in, based on the number of vacancies likely to be available there.

Lee Biggins, Founder and Managing Director of CV-Library, commented: "The new year is an exciting time ... many UK professionals will be ready to embark on a fresh job hunt and it's clear that this appetite is being reciprocated by businesses all over the UK.

"Brighton, Manchester and Glasgow in particular are home to a hub of organisations specialising in creative and technology roles, so it's fantastic to see these sectors thriving right now."
