The UK moves closer towards implementing the agency workers directive
Since Europe reached agreement on the agency workers directive in October 2008, considerable flexibility has been left to individual member states as to how they interpret and apply its framework of legal protection for agency workers, provided they do so by 5 December 2011.
The UK government has now published a consultation paper addressing issues arising from the implementation of the directive. Paystream, through the Service Providers Association, has engaged with government, to ensure that the effects of any proposed changes on the temporary labour market are clearly understood. There are still many vital issues to be decided. Greater clarity is expected this autumn with the publication of draft regulations so keep an eye on the website for further details.
